Staff Attorney
Email

My name is Tommy Souravong. I am one-quarter Lao and three-quarters Chinese, born and raised near St. Louis, MO.

I graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a bachelors degree in December 2018, double-majoring in History and Asian American Studies. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School with a JD in December 2022.

Coming from an immigrant/refugee background, I have always been passionate about helping out immigrant/refugee communities. My passion for the immigrant/refugee communities in Milwaukee goes back to 2017, when I got introduced to the Lao/Southeast Asian communities here. Through my internship with Catholic Charities of Milwaukee during summer 2022, I heard about IIW. After working over a year as a staff attorney for a nonprofit organization in central Illinois, I decided I wanted to return to Milwaukee for a change of pace. I joined IIW in July 2025 as a staff attorney on the legal team and wish to help as many clients as I can in hopes of eventually expanding the scope of legal services that we provide to our clients.

Hobbies/Interesting Facts: In my free time, I love visiting Lao-owned restaurants and Lao Buddhist temples, listening to Cantopop, making Lao food, going to the theaters to watch Cantonese and Bollywood movies, exploring parks and cities, and learning languages.

Languages Spoken: English (fluent/native), Mandarin (fluent/native), French (intermediate), Spanish (intermediate), Cantonese (beginner), Japanese (beginner), Lao (beginner).
