About the Role:
The International Programs Department is seeking a motivated and globally minded intern to support international exchange initiatives. In this role, you will help promote Japanese culture in Wisconsin and assist in creating innovative Japanese cultural programs for the community. You will gain hands-on experience working with youth, organizing events, and engaging with local community members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with youth cultural activities and programming.
- Plan, execute, and support outreach events with the Japan Outreach Initiative Program Coordinator.
- Coordinate events for international visitors, ensuring a welcoming and professional experience.
- Design promotional materials, including flyers and presentations, using tools such as Canva.
- Support social media content creation to promote programs and events.
- Set up and take down booths, exhibits, and other materials; may involve lifting heavier items.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Japanese/Global Studies, Education, Communication, Business, or a related field.
- A clean criminal background is required to ensure safety when working with minors and/or individuals with disabilities.
- Proof of vaccinations may be required in accordance with organizational policies to ensure safety in schools and community programs.
- Interest in Japan and Japanese culture, with a desire to grow Japanese business connections.
- Enjoy working with youth and supporting community engagement.
- Studied abroad or lived in Japan is a plus.
- Eagerness to learn or improve Japanese language skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for outreach and promotional purposes.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work respectfully with individuals from international backgrounds.
- Knowledge of Wisconsin—particularly Southeastern Wisconsin—is preferred.
- Experience with Canva or similar design platforms is a plus.
