POSITION: Interpretation & Translation Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Operations

 

JOB SUMMARY: The Interpretation & Translation Coordinator will be required to coordinate, train & provide a variety of interpretation and translation to the community. Serves as the first point of contact with clients and connects interpreters and translators with assignments. Collaborates with the program team to support interpreters and translators in job placement. Provides technical support to interpreters, translators, and clients for assignments as needed.


Responsibilities:

·     Understand and support the agency’s mission, vision, and core values.

·     Maintain a working knowledge of and comply with all agency policies and procedures.

·     Acts as the principal contact and coordinator for all interpretation and translation requests.

·     Assists with hiring and contracting of qualified interpreters and transcribers.

·     Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for medical, legal, and community interpreters.

·     Recruits, supervises, trains, and tests interpreters and translators, as needed.

·     Maintains the Institute’s Registry of Qualified Interpreters.

·     Coordinates the billing and payment for interpretation and translation services.

·     Monitors service expenses and works within the assigned budget. Develops regular reports as requested by the Director.

·     Assists in the integration of the interpretation and translation program with the total programs of the Institute.

·     Performs other functions as delegated by the President of the Institute.

·     Assists in scheduling interpreters/translators to meet the interpreting and transcribing needs of clients. Ensures that communication access working as Independent Contractors is successfully integrated into the IIW system.

·     Receives and reviews reports from independent contractors

·     Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues, and available services to refugees, using current information to better identify and serve refugee clients.

·     Offer professional interpretation and translation services to refugee clients, as well as transportation to interviews and appointments as necessary.

    The position will work to provide interpretation services and will assist with establishing, maintaining, and fostering positive and effective working relationships with internal and external certified translators and contracted translation services vendors.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  •    Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  •     Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  •     Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  •       Ability to manage a large and diverse workload under pressure and with competing priorities.
  •     A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with two years of experience is preferred.
  •       Computer and word processing skills are desirable.
  •      Bilingual skills are strongly preferred.
